Boris Vujčić was born on June 2, 1964, in Zagreb. He graduated in 1988 from the Faculty of Economics in Zagreb, where he also earned his doctoral degree in 1996. From 1989 to 1997, he served as an assistant at the Faculty of Economics in Zagreb, where he obtained the academic title of assistant professor. As a Fulbright scholarship recipient in 1994/1995, he pursued his doctoral studies at the Department of Economics at Michigan State University in the USA. In the year 1995/1996, he spent time at the European Commission in Brussels, first as an intern and later as an external collaborator in the Department of Monetary Affairs. From December 1996 until his appointment as Deputy Governor of the Croatian National Bank (HNB), he worked as the Director of the Research Department at the HNB.

Boris Vujčić was appointed Deputy Governor of the Croatian National Bank on July 15, 2000, by the decision of the Croatian Parliament’s House of Representatives. By the decision of the Croatian Parliament on July 13, 2006, he was entrusted with another six-year term as Deputy Governor. Since 2005, he has also been the Deputy Chief Negotiator in negotiations between Croatia and the EU.

By the decision of the Croatian Parliament on July 8, 2012, Prof. Dr. Boris Vujčić was appointed the Governor of the Croatian National Bank, and on July 13, 2018, the Croatian Parliament entrusted him with a second six-year term as governor.

As the Governor of the Croatian National Bank, Boris Vujčić is a member of the Governing Council of the ECB, the General Council of the ECB, the Steering Board of the ESRB (European Systemic Risk Board), and the Chairman of the Steering Board of the Vienna Initiative.

Boris Vujčić has been an extraordinary professor at the Faculty of Economics in Zagreb since 2003, and since 2004, he has been teaching as an external collaborator – an extraordinary professor at the Faculty of Science in Zagreb. His areas of specialization and teaching include monetary analysis, labor economics, and international finance. He is the author of numerous scientific and professional papers. Throughout his career, he has been a visiting researcher or lecturer at several universities, including the University of Sussex, University of Freiburg, University of Kentucky, an external collaborator of the International Labour Organization (ILO), a member of the editorial board of several journals, such as Comparative Economic Studies, a member of the advisory board of the Center for Financial Innovation and Financial Stability, Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta, and has held various other positions.   In 2018, he was named the best governor in Central and Eastern Europe by the Emerging Markets journal, and in 2019, The Banker (Financial Times) named him the best governor in the world. In 2021, he received the Lamfalussy Award for lifetime achievement in the field of finance.
