Sandra Krpan graduated from the Faculty of Education, majoring in Croatian language and literature. Ms. Krpan began working as a professor of Croatian language and literature in 1999 before being promoted to principal in 2008 at the Milan Brozović Elementary School in Kastav. She was the president of the 13th International Conference on Excellence, Creativity and Innovation in Primary and Higher Education: Excellence in Education and Psychology, sponsored by the President of the Republic of Croatia and the Ministry of Science, Education and Sports. Ms. Krpan was an active participant in a series of consultations, seminars, workshops, lectures and study visits in the country and abroad in the field of education (Finland, Estonia, Poland, Netherlands, Belgium, Singapore, China, USA, Canada, Denmark, Israel, UAE). Ms. Krpan is extremely dedicated to the promotion of human rights, non-violence, peacemaking and humanitarian work. She is an advocate of women’s rights, especially the right to decide about one’s own body. Also, Ms. Krpan has been actively engaged in politics since 2003, when she became a member of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Rijeka. From 2005 to 2021, she was a member of the City Council of the City of Rijeka. As a local politician, she was the president of the SDP-Labourists-SDSS Club in the Rijeka City Council, as well as the president of the Committee for Gender Equality. At the national level, she was a member of parliament and a member of the Committee for Gender Equality. Since 2021, she has held the position of deputy mayor of the City of Rijeka, where she continues to focus on education, social justice, equality and women’s rights. As deputy mayor, she initiated the project to provide free menstrual products for girls in elementary schools, as well as the introduction of Health Education in elementary schools. Since 2022, Sandra Krpan has been the president of the Social Democratic Women’s Forum of the SDP of Croatia.
